With today's ever-changing mission, forward deploying military teams and emergency response organizations have become essentiall to the safety of our lives. Critical missions are constantly challenged to securely connect with and extend the reach of their backend secure wired networks. Providing necessary access with enough usable uplink, along with secure connectivity to mandatory systems for users across long distances and remote outdoor locations is one of many limiting factors in deployed operation's ability to effectively achieve their objectives. A traditional wired approach is just not practical, and in many cases, such as disaster response or working in conflict areas becomes impossible. Further, knowing that these devices are critical infrastructure elements and employed in harsh outdoor environments for months or years at a time, they must be extremely durable, weatherized, and easy to configure and maintain.
Specifically in military and other extremely mobile operations, such as traveling convoys in "hot zones" and remote command center missions, the "boots-on-the-ground" as well as moving vehicles are brought to an area where there is no reliable communications infrastructure. For these reasons, it is apparent to the mission to implement a flexible, rugged, and dynamic Secure Wireless Mesh solution which allow these distributed assets to connect to the network without the installation and management constraints associated with traditional wired networks.
Mesh networks are the ideal enabler, allowing nodes to move within the area of operation, forming trusts with neighboring devices and dropping connections with non-reliant neighbors all dynamically. But not just ANY wireless network can be utilized for use in tactical maneuver environments, they must support mobility of the all nodes. Even those mounted in vehicles, including Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs).
