LTI DataComm News Release

About LTI

LTI DataComm, an Aruba ServiceEdge partner, Helps the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) Go Mobile

Sterling, VA – May 30, 2009The FDIC monitors, controls, and governs financial establishments throughout the U.S., ensuring that institutions employ appropriate, economically sound policies and best practices. As a leader in developing and implementing sound public policies that identify and address risks to the nation’s financial system, the FDIC is expected to carry out its insurance, supervisory, and receivership management responsibilities effectively and efficiently. The Institution has a long tradition of distinguished public service and takes seriously its charter to preserve and promote public confidence in the U.S. financial system.

The Goals

  • Deploy at a moment’s notice an A team (12 or more employees) and a B team (5 or less employees) to conduct onsite operations at member banks located throughout the U.S.
  • Provide remote teams with access to all approved resources on the FDIC LAN (located in Washington, D.C.) in a simple, secure way—without passing traffic through a member bank’s infrastructure

The Solution
LTI designed, installed, and verified the performance of a secure, nationwide, geographically dispersed Aruba wireless LAN (WLAN) for the FDIC. The new system consisted of more than 100 access points and 10 mobility controllers and leveraged vital new features in the latest Aruba operation system, giving remotely deployed FDIC employees access to secure data, voice, and location services. LTI’s wireless engineering team consulted with the FDIC’s senior IT specialist throughout the entire project, from design to implementation, which took approximately two weeks.

The Results

  • Secure wireless infrastructure: remote teams securely access the FDIC’s primary network without accessing or relying on the security of the local network
  • Secure wireless mesh: remote teams can quickly and easily expand the coverage of the remote WLAN without tapping local network connectivity or having to run cables
  • Remote access points: small teams deployed to any location still have secure access to the FDIC’s central servers
  • Central management: FDIC IT staff can monitor and manage the systems used by all remote A and B teams from one central location
  • Short ROI: remote teams are deployed faster and work more effectively with minimal involvement of the FDIC IT staff
